The start of a new adventure...

Damien is now in Khartoum and I'm still in Bayonne with his wonderful family. I took Damien to the airport early Wednesday morning (July 2nd).. thankfully it was a short "see you later".. (I don't like to call it a "good-bye").. long ones are painful. Damien left for Paris for his last briefings before leaving for Sudan the next morning. I went back to his parents' house, slept a bit and then went to a high ropes course with Noemie (his sister), Baptiste (his younger brother), Nicolas (his older brother) and Agnes (Nicolas' wife). It was soo much fun! The weather was perfect and the course was really long and varied. Baptiste ended up being the stud of the day and did the BLACK course, which began by climbing up a 30 foot rope, then in the wind and a bit of rain he finished the rest! Later on Noemie and Roselyne (his mom) helped me pack, which was wonderful! We all finished the night with some laughs on the wiifit, needless to say, I'm now sore all over!

Thursday we went to the beach and for the first time I went in the water and played in the waves (normally I stay on the towel and read).. Noemie and I had a lot of fun! That night we went out and saw Narnia at the movie theater, I loved it! Those kinds of movies make you wish magic was real!!

Then today (Friday), Noemie and Roselyne took me to Saint Jean de Luz. We had a great girl talk and shopping time. Noemie ended up getting a super cute black top which looks beautiful on her and a fun summer skirt. I was happy to find the pair of pants I was looking for. The beach was sparkling and we could see the mountains in the background. We got to see where Louis XIV was married and tasted the best macaroons ever! Lunch was in a friendly, family owned cafe decorated with different cultural objects like the makila (a Basque walking stick with a hidden blade inside) and a chistera (used for playing the Basque sport of pelote). And to top off the afternoon, we had icecream!! mmm, coconut, my newfound favorite :) Before going back to the house we stopped by Noemie's school to find out how she did on her BAC examen.. we were all excited to find out the she passed with flying colors! woo hoo!! It was nice also because I got to see the school grounds, which is nothing like my highschool and meet her teachers.

I miss Damien already, it should be interesting to see how we make this work. I am however enjoying the moments I get to spend with his family here and am looking forward to the time I will get to spend with my family in the States (I leave the 10th of July).
